Oswalt Prefers Cardinals To Phillies, Werth Goes Shopping

The Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals have emerged as the two teams showing the most interest in acquiring stud starting pitcher Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros.

And sources close to Oswalt says he prefers to be traded to the Cardinals over the Phillies. No reasons were given, but judging by the way this season has gone for the Phillies, maybe Oswalt assumes coming to Philly would only result in drama or injury.

With a little less than 70 games left, the Cardinals seem the better team than the Phillies and more suited to make a championship run.

But trading Oswalt within the division may not be something the Astros want to do. Plus, it is believed they want quality young prospects at either the catcher or corner outfield positions in return for the 32 year-old Oswalt.

In related news, the Phillies have supposedly been shopping OF Jayson Werth over the last 24 hours in hopes of getting quality prospects that could help them strike a deal for Oswalt. No team or teams have emerged as a potential destination for Werth.

In somewhat related news, Pat Burrell is still available. . .
