Oswalt Prefers Cardinals To Phillies, Werth Goes Shopping

The Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals have emerged as the two teams showing the most interest in acquiring stud starting pitcher Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros.

And sources close to Oswalt says he prefers to be traded to the Cardinals over the Phillies. No reasons were given, but judging by the way this season has gone for the Phillies, maybe Oswalt assumes coming to Philly would only result in drama or injury.

With a little less than 70 games left, the Cardinals seem the better team than the Phillies and more suited to make a championship run.

But trading Oswalt within the division may not be something the Astros want to do. Plus, it is believed they want quality young prospects at either the catcher or corner outfield positions in return for the 32 year-old Oswalt.

In related news, the Phillies have supposedly been shopping OF Jayson Werth over the last 24 hours in hopes of getting quality prospects that could help them strike a deal for Oswalt. No team or teams have emerged as a potential destination for Werth.

In somewhat related news, Pat Burrell is still available. . .

Moyer Out Indefinitely, Happ And Kendrick Are The Weekend Starters

Phils GM Rueben Amaro had a few statements today. First he said pitcher Jamie Moyer is out for a significant amount time. That sounds real bad. You have to wonder if his arm finally have out and we have seen his final appearance ever.

The news doesn't get any better... Amaro also said Kyle Kendrick will start Saturday against the Rocks and Happ will pitch Sunday. Oh happy day... Guess the Phils are out of the Roy Oswalt sweepstakes.

On a bright note the Phils finally won a game today 2-0 over the Cards avoiding a 4-game sweep. (insert sarcastic applause)

Vick A Lock To Return, Jackson's Contract Will Not Be Re-done

Yes, the Eagles are about to begin!

Two bits of news for you all. Two strong and reliable sources have said Mike Vick will definitely be returning to the Eagles. It's a 100% lock... I guess there are 3 and 4 chances?? Not so zero tolerance huh??

The 2 sources also stated that the Eagles will not re-do star reciever DeSean Jackson's contract. They said the Eagles can't do what the Titans did for Chris Johnson because he was a 1st round pick with an extra year on his initial deal.

This is a head scratcher with the Eagles. Why make another mistake with a good receiver's contract. Why give D-Jack a chance to unleash his inner TO... Give him a little bonus or something! They did it for Kolb.

Thoughts on this LPS Nation?

Oswalt Deal Dead?

It appears the Roy Oswalt deal to Philly may have hit several snags...

The main issue is Oswalt will only waive his no-trade clause if the team he goes to picks up his 16 million dollar 2012 contract option. Oswalt is 32 now, so he would be 34 or 35 in that final year making a hefty 16 million dollars. Ouch...

The Phils are obviously balking at this idea. If only we still had a fantastic pitcher with a decent price tag this year?? Hmmmmmm...

Another snag is a report surfacing that Oswalt doesn't want to go to a team with an aggressive media market. Philly is not an aggressive media market right?? (insert laughter)

Stay tuned for more details as they emerge... Phils have to do something and something quick. This season is on the cusp of disaster.

Flyers Re- sign Darroll Powe

The Flyers have re-signed RFA Darroll Powe to a 1-year, 725K deal.

This move became nessessary when the news broke that center Blair Betts will likely miss the first 2 months of the season recovering from shoulder surgery.

Phillies Trade Rumor Update

Several credible reports are out there that the Phils are in serious talks in acquiring Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt.

It will come at a price...

I'm hearing it may be a 3-team deal, maybe including the Rays. It appears Jayson Werth will be the salary and player the Phils move along with a decent prospect.

Stay tuned LPS... A deal is coming very soon... I think it will happen before this Saturday night's game.

Moyer To DL, Happ Called Up

As expected Jamie Moyer is heading to the DL. It probably will be a long stint...

Everyone is comparing the injury to the one suffered by Jay Happ. Happ has been sidelined for over 2 months and is not 47.

Jay Happ has been called up.

And the trade plot thickens...

Moyer Injured

When it rains, it pours...
Jamie Moyer has left the game in the 2nd inning with a left elbow strain. Yup, that's his throwing arm...

GM Rueben Amaro said earlier today, more or less, the Phils are after a starter.

That just became nescessary...

Someone from the Iron Pigs game in Lehigh just tweeted Happ was pulled in the 3rd inning of that game. Looks like he is on the way up to the big leagues.

Kyle Kendrick Optioned To Lehigh

The shake up looks like it may be beginning for the Phillies...

Kyle Kendrick has been been sent down to AAA Lehigh Valley. Andrew Carpenter has been called up.

Maybe this is the precursor to a trade for a starter or a internal shake up.

Paging Dominic Brown...

Gagne Has Been Traded To Tampa Bay

Several sources have confirmed Simon Gagne has been traded to the Lighting for defenseman Matt Walker and a 4th round pick.

Gagne was the longest tenured athelete in Philly. Now that distinction belongs to David Akers.

Gagne Traded To Tampa Bay??

I have seen 2 strong sources that are saying the Flyers have traded Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lighting.

No word on who the Flyers will get and most important, if the deal is officially complete.

Stay tuned for details as they emerge...
